Televangelist seeks donations for $54M private jet, would be his fourth

Jesse Duplantis the Destrehan-based prosperity gospel televangelist is shown in a still image from a video on his ministry's website

In a video posted to YouTube, television preacher Duplantis asked the Lord - and his hundreds of thousands of followers around the world - to fund a new Falcon 7X private jet.

Duplantis said his ministry already bought three private jets and has been "just burning them up for the Lord Jesus Christ".

The Times-Picayune reports that Duplantis made the pitch to his followers in the May 21 edition of his weekly video address.

He tells viewers that God spoke to him and told him to "believe" on a Dassault Falcon 7X.

He can fly around the world on his current jet, but he can't do it without stopping to refuel.

In fact, Duplantis said that "if Jesus was physically on the Earth today, he wouldn't be riding a donkey".

"He said, 'Jesse, you wanna come up where I'm at?'" according to Duplantis.

It's not the first time Duplantis has been public about his desire for private jets, according to USA Today. "If I can do it in one stop, I can fly it for a lot cheaper, because I have my own fuel farm, and that's what's a blessing of the Lord".

The Dassault Falcon 7X would certainly do the trick.

God instructed Duplantis to "preach the Gospel to every creature", he explained. "It's gonna reach people".

"The prosperity of gospel which many of these ministers are preaching is simply not the gospel of Jesus Christ - it is false gospel", said Jim Wallis, the founder of Sojourners, a prominent Christian community.

A Louisiana televangelist is asking for followers for donations to buy a Falcon X luxury business jet, like this one parked in a hanger, on April 27, 2007.

"Now people say ... can't you go with this one?" he said, pointing to a picture of the plane he uses.

"The world is in such a shape, we can't get there without this", Copeland said of private aircraft.

Copeland explained that because they are famous, they would have people coming up to them and asking for prayers. "This dope-filled world. And get in a long tube with a bunch of demons".
