Saints lose Ingram to 4-game National Football League doping ban

Mark Ingram of the New Orleans Saints runs with the ball during Pro Bowl NFL football practice in Kissimmee Fla. The NFL says Ingram has been suspended for the first four regular season games

The New Orleans Saints will not have Mark Ingram for the first four games of the 2018 season.

So, Ingram will indeed be suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

"He has vigorously challenged the test results through the arbitration process".

The statement notes the arbitrator is expected to give an opinion in mid-May. The game at Atlanta will be a stiff test regardless of whether Ingram plays. Upon having the opportunity to review the arbitrator's opinion, we will explore what further options are needed."Barring an overturned judgment, Ingram is slated to miss tilts against the Buccaneers, Browns, Falcons and Giants".

There is no doubt Ingram was a huge part of the Saints success last season, but his absence may not be as detrimental as it may seem on the surface.

Ingram rushed for a rushed for a career high 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2017, along with 416 receiving yards.

Ingram's numbers slightly falling off, averaging 2.8 yards per carry, 31.5 yards rushing per game and only 1 touchdown.

Ingram, who is seeking a new contract despite his circumstances, has not been present during voluntary offseason workouts but will be permitted to participate in all of the Saints' offseason work and training camp as well as the preseason. It won't come as any surprise if New Orleans adds a veteran running back before training camp, considering the aforementioned players (besides Kamara) have accounted for only 47 regular-season National Football League carries.
