Jeffress Prays 'For the Peace of Jerusalem' After Being Called 'Bigot'

Jeffress appeared on Fox News on Friday to discuss the embassy's opening.

Senate candidate and former Presidential candidate Mitt Romney objected to the inclusion of Pastor Robert Jeffress in the opening of the new embassy in Jerusalem.

The Dallas pastor slated to lead a prayer at the opening of the USA embassy in Jerusalem has made derogatory remarks about Jews, Muslims, and Mormons.

And Romney is among the most high-profile voices criticizing the decision to allow Jeffress to speak at the embassy event, tweeting that the pastor was a "religious bigot" who should not be given a platform at the ceremony. "The fact that I, along with tens of millions of evangelical Christians around the world, continue to espouse that belief, is neither bigoted nor newsworthy". The message was clear but Hagee said his position was misrepresented and "the ugliest of lies". Afterward, Jeffress spoke with reporters and told them that the Mormon Church is a cult. He said, "I think it's sad that Mitt feels the need to lash out in anger on such a historic day but it's not going to overshadow what is happening here". Jeffress said he would "be thanking God for the strong leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu, who is absolutely determined to protect Israel".

Separately, Jeffress has said that although he finds Romney to be a "good and moral family man", as he is a Mormon, he would not be considered to be a born-again follower of Jesus Christ.

He has also called Mormonism "a cult" that is not a true part of Christianity and said "you can't be saved by being a Jew", Haaretz reported.

"That is why this debate is so insidious about all of this".

He told host Todd Starnes: "In that prayer, I'm going to be recounting God's history of faithfulness to His people, the Israelites".

The relocation of the embassy marks a almost three decade departure from US foreign policy and has been largely regarded by evangelical Christians as a major victory for the Trump administration. Do they integrate their faith with their practices?

CP has reached out to Jeffress for further comment and will update the article if a response is received.
