Israel, Russia Reach 'Understanding' on Iranian Presence in Syria

A Russian air force technician reports to a pilot that a Su-34 bomber is ready for a combat mission at Hemeimeem airbase in Syria

President Bashar al-Assad raised the possibility of conflict with USA forces in Syria if they do not withdraw from the country soon.

Assad said he would recover areas of Syria held by the US -backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and that USA forces should learn the lesson of Iraq and leave the country.

Damascus has repeatedly stated that the presence of Russian, Iranian and other allied forces in the country is legitimate, since they are in the country on the invitation of the Syrian government.

"This is the first option".

"We were close to having direct conflict between the Russian forces and the American forces".

Mr Assad said the U.S. must learn the lesson of Iraq and leave the country.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has branded President Donald Trump an "animal", saying US forces should learn the lesson of Iraq and leave the country. They have to learn the lesson. This is panic. This is a kind of hysterical feeling, because they are loosing the dear ones, Al Nusra and ISIS. Iran has even facilitated the creation of a tripartite electric power scheme that closely links its economy and infrastructure with those of both Syria and Iraq.

The comments followed Syrian President Bashar Assad's insistence that the U.S. should leave the Arab Republic.

Trump blamed Assad for the attack, calling him an "animal" and securing the support of UK Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron to launch strikes on his regime.

Assad declined to say how much longer the war will continue, but he reiterated that he intends to bring all parts of the country back under his authority.

It remains unclear, however, under what circumstances the troops will eventually leave and what will happen to their Kurdish allies, who say they are determined to maintain control over the area.

Russian Federation will, according to the report, push for all foreign troops to clear out of Syria, including Turkey and various US-supported groups. On Tuesday, its Foreign Ministry said Russian Federation, the United States and Jordan had agreed to meet about the "de-escalation" zone, RIA news agency reported.

Mr Assad denied that his government carried out the attack, saying that his regime does not have chemical weapons and it would not have been in its interest to carry out such a strike.

Israel, which is deeply alarmed by Tehran's influence in Syria, earlier this month said it destroyed dozens of Iranian military sites in Syria, after Iranian forces fired rockets at Israeli-held territory for the first time. Netanyahu stated that he intends to present Israel's key concerns to the leaders of France, Britain and Germany, explaining that "we already have the experience - there have been years in which we stood alone against these threats and the situation has changed for the better".

According to the report, Israel's Defense Ministry underlined Israel's view that the Iranian presence should be entirely eradicated from Syria, not only militarily and not only from the southern part of the country, but also from an economic standpoint as well.
