Golden State Warriors obliterate Pelicans in game one

Kawakami Thompson Warriors Pelicans series The Steph Curry question the matchups our predictions

The game started as a high-paced shootout, with the first quarter ending 35-34 to the Warriors, but a vicious second quarter onslaught from the Warriors-41 to 21-left the Pelicans facing an uphill battle for the rest of the game. When Curry has been in the lineup this season, he only had a 19.8 usage rate compared to a 27.1 usage rate without during the regular season. Fortunately, the Warriors were able to fall back on Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson without Curry leading the way.

The big question now is what role Curry will have upon his return.

Warriors All-Star Stephen Curry is expected to play in Tuesday's Game 2 against the Pelicans coach Steve Kerr told reporters Saturday.

"What happened in the second quarter is inexcusable".

Needless to say, adding that kind of production back to the Warriors' rotation with the way they are already playing is a scary thought for the Pelicans and everyone else in the Western Conference playoff picture. His 15 rebounds helped the Warriors out-rebound the Pelicans 65-46, a huge disparity on the glass. He shot 49.5 percent from the floor and knocked down 42.3 percent of his three-point attempts. Quinn Cook and Shaun Livingston both scored in double digits, while David West scored 8 points and played excellent defense.

Head to head, the over is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Golden State and the over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings overall. Looney's footwork and his ability to not bite on fakes makes him a great perimeter defender against the pick and roll, but his length bothered Anthony Davis inside, too. Saturday's game at Oracle Arena was played at a pace of 105.96, while the pace of Warriors-Spurs peaked at 98.12.

Curry returned to light training during their first round playoffs win over the San Antonio Spurs, but was only cleared for full contact practice late last week, which made him questionable for Game 1 against the Pelicans.

"Hopefully he comes back Tuesday but we still have to have the same mindset if he isn't - that's where we are at our best", said Thompson.
