Facebook suspends ~200 suspicious apps out of "thousands" reviewed so far

Well, Facebook just announced they have suspended over 200 apps after investigation of their usage.

It's important to note that the company isn't necessarily investigating apps that had access to the quiz app put together by Cambridge University researcher Aleksandr Kogan.

The social media giant has said that if it finds any evidence of data misuse, it will ban the concerned third-party app and notify the people via Help Centre. The app audit was part of Facebook's grand mea-culpa earlier this year, after the part the social network played in the Cambridge Analytica scandal was revealed.

"Facebook will continue to explore all the apps that got access to so much personal information before we changed our policy in 2014 to reduce access to personal data", the report says.

Here is an update on the app investigation and audit that Mark Zuckerberg promised on March 21.

Amid investigations in the USA and the UK, Cambridge Analytica announced earlier this month that it is declaring bankruptcy and ceasing operations, the Associated Press reported.

He further stated that Facebook has large teams of internal and external experts working through apps that need investigating as quickly as possible.

Cambridge Analytica was found to have allegedly received a huge cache of Facebook user data from a third-party app developer. The thorough investigation will consist of interviews, requests for information and performing audits that may include on-site inspections.

The investigation isn't the only measure Facebook has taken to protect its users.

The first stage of Facebook's review has seen 200 apps suspended. Although she also said the company has not yet decided how it will share information about these apps.

Apps that access information from Pages, which are often used for tasks like scheduling posts and responding to messages and comments, will need Facebook's approval.
