Disgraced Hollywood icon Harvey Weinstein surrenders on sex assault charges

Harvey Weinstein Turns Himself in to Police to Face Sex Crime Charge in NYC

Asked what she'd say to Weinstein if she had the chance to confront him now, she answered, "We got you".

Harvey Weinstein pleaded not guilty to charges of committing a criminal sexual act.

"My job is not to defend behaviour", he said. Mr Farrow won a Pulitzer Prize for his Weinstein coverage in The New Yorker. That's not what this is about.

Film producer Harvey Weinstein leaves criminal court following his arraignment in Manhattan in NY, U.S., May 25, 2018.

Weinstein's spokesman Juda Engelmayer and Weinstein's lawyer Benjamin Brafman both declined to comment. Court documents say Weinstein trapped the woman and raped her in a New York City hotel room in 2013.

Numerous women, including several celebrities, have come forward with allegations that Weinstein repeatedly engaged in unwanted, inappropriate and aggressive sexual behavior since reports of his serial misconduct first surfaced past year. "And to see him do the Bill Cosby old man perp walk on the way in, so we already know what he is planning, to see him in cuffs on the way out, whether he smiled or not, that's a very good feeling".

As prosecutor Joan Illuzzi said in court: Weinstein "used his money, power and position to lure women into positions where he was able to violate them sexually". His bail was set at $1 million and he has to wear an electronic monitor.

Sexual assault cases, particularly those that allegedly happened years ago, are notoriously hard to prosecute and often lack substantive forensic evidence.

After sexual assault charges were dropped against former International Monetary Fund Chairman Dominique Strauss-Kahn in 2011, his lawyer Ben Brafman assailed the accuser's credibility, telling Reuters: "This encounter was quick, it was consensual and she was a willing participant".

More than 100 women have since accused Weinstein of crimes ranging from sexual harassment to assault and rape going back 40 years.

Weinstein has consistently denied any allegations of nonconsensual sex.

Weinstein arrived early in the morning at the New York Police Department's 1st Precinct in Lower Manhattan, ushered into the station by law enforcement officers as members of the media crowded behind metal barriers. The New York Police Department, which made the arrest, told Yahoo Entertainment: "The NYPD does not release the mugshot of anyone arrested in New York City". He sought treatment for sex addiction at a facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, the New York Times reported.

After turning himself in, Weinstein was arraigned on charges of first-degree rape and third-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sex act.

"These crimes are serious, sexual crimes that are being prosecuted against him".

London's Metropolitan Police have said they are investigating an allegation of sexual assault against Weinstein, while prosecutors in Los Angeles said in February they were reviewing three accusations of sexual assault against him.

The rape charges involve a woman who has not come forward publicly.
